Prior to the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, there were approximately 100,000 orphans in orphanages and facilities across Ukraine. Since the Russian aggression and actions that many countries categorize as war crimes, only about 20,000 of the orphans’ whereabouts are confirmed. Where are the remaining 80,000? Are these Ukrainian citizens safe and protected?
History has proven that war and crisis have an increased impact on disadvantaged populations like orphans. These populations are often subject to a higher risk of neglect, abuse, trafficking, and abuse. These populations can become forgotten by the world.
The Missing project’s mission is to determine the whereabouts of all of the Ukrainian orphans and help to make sure they are safe, healthy, and never forgotten.
